Parks Undergo Significant Upgrades
Local parks in Newcastle are set to receive a substantial makeover. Funding for NYEP, approximately R3.5 million over two years, is sourced from municipal grants and business donations.
Workshops Promote Sustainable Living in Newcastle
Environmental sustainability is another pillar of the current Newcastle community development initiatives. A series of workshops and community clean-up drives are planned for the remainder of 2026. The 'Green Newcastle Initiative', led by 'Ezemvelo Newcastle', will host monthly workshops covering topics such as composting, rainwater harvesting, and proper recycling techniques. The organisation hopes to engage at least 500 residents in workshops by year-end and plans quarterly clean-up drives, with the next one on September 21, 2026, along the Ncandu River. Newcastle generates approximately 120 tonnes of refuse daily, underscoring the importance of these waste reduction efforts.
